A Bomber Jacket

A bomber jacket is a type of outerwear that has a flat, wraparound collar and fitted waist and cuffs. It usually has a zipper front and pockets on the sides or the chest. It was originally worn by military pilots in cold and high-altitude conditions, but now it is a popular fashion item for men and women

One of the most searched terms has evolved into one of the most well-liked trends with a lengthy history. Bomber jackets have become a global sensation that transcends all boundaries, dialects, and cultures. Leather bomber jackets in particular, which are adaptable, gender-neutral, and appropriate for all ages, have never enjoyed greater global recognition than they do right now. This blog post is a must-read for you if you’ve ever wondered what a bomber jacket is.

WHAT IS BOMBER JACKET USED FOR?

A bomber jacket is used for different purposes, depending on the context and the wearer. Originally, a bomber jacket was used to keep military pilots warm in the cold and open-air cockpits during the World Wars. Nowadays, a bomber jacket is used as a fashion statement that can express one’s personality, style and mood. A bomber jacket can also be used as a versatile layering piece that can be worn with various outfits and in different seasons.

WHAT IS DIFFERENCE BETWEEN JACKET AND BOMBER JACK?

A jacket is a general term for a garment that covers the upper body and has sleeves. Whereas a bomber jacket is a specific type of jacket that has a zipper closure, elasticated cuffs and waistband, and often a padded or quilted design. Bomber jackets were originally worn by military pilots, hence the name. A bomber jacket may also have cargo pockets or a fold-down collar.

A bomber jacket is often a short (waist-length) piece of outerwear with matching cuffs and a gathered, ribbed waistband. It features a front zipper and frequently four useful pockets on the top and sides.

In addition to various kinds of leather, polyester, nylon, and cotton are also used to make bombers. Throughout its development, bomber jackets have included either a shirt collar that is either plain or lined with shearling or a flat circular collar that matches the waistband.

Historically, bomber jackets were first used during World War I, a time when there was a great need for strong, warm winter coats because the majority of airplanes did not have enclosed cockpits. The U.S. Army and the Aviation Clothing Board established this jacket as a requirement for the uniform solely for practical reasons.

But the B3, a different version of the bomber jacket, was unveiled during World War II. With the developments in aircraft technology, this jacket was a revamped version of the bomber jacket design. The development of the sheepskin flying jacket was a result of the need for warmer clothes when flying at higher altitudes.

Even though it was a need for the military, the bomber jacket slowly made its way into the wardrobes of regular people. One of the most well-liked styles as it transcended cultures and borders was the nylon-made MA-1 bomber jacket with an orange inside.

Interestingly, Europe was one of the first regions outside of the military to adopt the bomber jacket look. This had a fundamental role in the development of subcultures in the 1960s and the early 1980s.
